Why Hyundai Dry Freight Vans are Superior
Roof. All Hyundai trailers are triple sealed along the entire union of the roof sheet and top rail. First, a ½” wide layer of sealant tape is applied to the upper horizontal surface of the top rail. Second, a generous bead of white sealant is applied to the same upper surface of the top rail, and the edge of the aluminum roof sheet is folded over the top rail web around the entire circumference of the roof, forming a tightly wrapped seal. Finally, the top exterior path of roof sheet rivets is coated with a generous layer of grey epoxy sealant. Floor. A generous bead of silicon-based caulking is applied between each of the floor board joints prior to assembly. Additionally, the entire exterior underside surface of each floor board is protected and sealed with a coat of sealant, which is applied prior to cross-member mounting, thus ensuring complete coverage of the board surface. Doors. All rivet, screw, or bolt perforations to the rear doors are sealed with a silicon sealant and the door exterior circumference is protected by a hard rubber seal. Impermeability Testing. All Hyundai trailers are sent through the water test booth after completion, where they are exposed to over 100 external high pressure water jets, which are directed in such a manner, as to exceed the conditions of any soaking a trailer may be exposed to in the natural environment. Rust and Corrosion Prevention Rear Frame. The entire rear frame assembly is hot dipped galvanized in its assembled form prior to mounting on the trailer, allowing the galvanizing to cover fully both the interior and exterior surfaces while closing off and protecting mating areas of components. This provides maximum rust/corrosion protection and extends the life. Landing Gear Support. Landing gear mounting brackets and K-bracing is hot dipped galvanized prior to mounting on trailer. Cross-members. Each crossmember is dipped in a pre-heated rust/ corrosion protective coating prior to mounting on the trailer. This dipping ensures the entire surface is protected, as opposed to conventional spray coating which leaves parts of the crossmember unprotected. Bogie. The entire bogie frame is coated with a rust and corrosion resistant material prior to assembly. Upper Coupler. The interior and exterior surfaces of the upper coupler are coated with rust corrosion resistant material before mounting to the trailer.
Quality Construction Floor. Floor boards are mounted to the base assembly with three screws per board per cross member in an alternating pattern to ensure the same number of fasteners on both sides of the cross member for its entire width. Each of the floor board screw holes are pre-drilled through the floor and cross member and the floor board holes are counter-sunk. This maximizes fastening strength while eliminating the expansion forces created by straight-drilling the screw into the floor and cross member. Side Walls. The side walls and side post rivet holes are simultaneously punched using a 750-ton press. This ensures uniform punching and minimizes hole tolerances, resulting in a tighter fit and better side wall sealing. Top and bottom side rails are installed using computer controlled punching and riveting equipment to insure proper riveting of these important structural members. Roof Structure. The roof panel is installed to the top side rails using computer controlled punching and riveting equipment insuring proper riveting at all times. All dry freight trailers have roof bows completely bonded to the roof sheet the full length of the roof bow and each roof bow is attached to the top side rails using four (4) solid aluminum rivets; two (2) per end for maximum strength and rigidity. Cross Member Mounting. Hyundai uses the largest cross member mounting rivet with four (4) 3/8” diameter high strength solid aluminum rivets per cross member per side located in a 2”X4” pattern.. Front Post Mounting. All front posts are riveted to the vertical surface of the upper coupler front bottom rail using six (6) high strength aluminum rivets. In addition, each post is welded to the interior top surface of the upper coupler using special foot angles attached to the rear side of each post. This provides maximum strength and protection against impacts from fork lifts and loose pallets. Electrolysis Shielding. All dry vans are constructed of several dissimilar metals, which, if left unshielded, will react, resulting in decay. Hyundai uses a heavy duty EDPM insulation tape between dissimilar metals to protect against the effects of electrolysis.
Why Hyundai Reefer Vans are Superior Foaming Process. Hyundai Translead’s computerized mixing and injection method consistently produces walls, roofs and floors exhibiting the highest thermal qualities and absent of any voids. This is accomplished by using a rotating press which is temperature controlled and set at an angle during foaming which allows the foam to rise and set while pushing out unwanted air. Hyundai’s trailer foaming process was borrowed from the sea-going refrigerated ocean container process and uses a foam density which is significantly higher than the competition. In addition, Hyundai’s use of a higher density foam adds to structural integrity. Patented Accordion Roof. Both the internal and external temperature extremes inherent to a reefer trailer result in constant expanding and contracting of the roof’s interior and exterior surface. These forces can result in de-laminating of the interior and exterior roof sheets from the foam insulation. To combat this effect, Hyundai designed an “accordion” roof, which incorporates small corrugations into the roof sheet. This feature is designed to absorb the expanding and contracting forces rather than try to contain them. The design of the corrugations allows for easy repair should damage occur.
Floating Floor. Conventional reefer trailer design has the floor screwed or riveted to the cross members. Each screw or rivet perforation is a potential path for thermal loss, moisture penetration and structural deterioration. The floor in a reefer trailer moves due to the forces involved in loading and unloading cargo, and expansion and contraction due to temperature extremes. As with the roof design, Hyundai’s floor design works in harmony with those forces rather than trying to restrain them. That is why Hyundai allows the floor to float on the cross member plane. We don’t screw or rivet the floor to the cross members, but instead allow it to “float” over them.
Why Hyundai Translead is a Superior Trailer Company
Diversified Product Line. Hyundai Translead is a recognized leader in the manufacture of high quality equipment for the transportation industry. The product line includes: Dry Vans. Hyundai Translead manufactures both sheet and post as well as plate trailers (aluminum and composite plate). Our diverse product line and our ability to build to customer specifications means we are less susceptible to economic cycles which can negatively impact manufacturers with more narrow product offerings. This translates into longevity and staying power. Hyundai Translead can be counted on for long-term support. State of the Art Manufacturing Facilities Hyundai Translead is part of the Hyundai global group of companies. Hyundai is involved in electronics, shipbuilding, heavy equipment, major construction projects and automobile and truck manufacturing just to name of few of the diverse industries in which we participate. Belonging to such a diverse group allows Hyundai Translead to draw upon the manufacturing and technological resources of the other divisions. A good example of how technology-sharing benefits Hyundai Translead and it customers and contributes to a higher quality product can be found on our suspension bogie assembly line. We employed automotive assembly line technology and robotics borrowed from the automotive division of Hyundai. This highly automated assembly line fully assembles the bogie, including wheels and tires, and automatically checks tire pressure, critical torque specifications and bearing and brake tolerances. The finished product is a ready-to-install bogie set to exact specifications. This system ensures consistent quality every time and increases overall efficiency, ultimately contributing to increased production capacity. |
